Multiple types of fraud are on the rise, especially through texts and mobile phones. Please be extra careful and aware. Beware of texts that appear to be from the bank and the sender later asks you for your account information, online banking credentials, or codes that are texted to you by First Merchants Bank.

According to Banks Never Ask That, the following are red flag indicators that you could be dealing with a scammer:

    • Scare tactics
    • A sense of urgency
  • Information Requests
    • Ask for sensitive account info
    • Ask for passwords
    • Ask for your PIN or a login code that's texted to you
  • Websites
    • Ask you to visit an unfamiliar website
    • Ask you to call a number different than the one listed on your card
  • Language and Grammar
    • Incorrect grammar
    • Unprofessional language
    • Multiple typos
  • Email
    • Email attachments
    • Suspicious links

Tips to keep your money safe:
Banks will never call or text you to ask for personal account information.

  • Do not provide personal account information to anyone who requests it via text, even if the text seems to come from your bank.
  • Do not provide personal account information to anyone who calls and asks you for it.
  • Don’t accept package deliveries that you are not expecting
