One of the best ways to prevent fraud is to not just protect your data, but to keep it private. Data privacy is its own form of security, and it can help you stay safe from scammers.

Here are a few tips to ensure that your data isn’t just secure, but also secret:

  • Create long, unique, complex passwords for each account and device, and change them any time you believe your information has been compromised.
  • Consider using a reputable password manager to securely store and track your passwords.
  • Set your browser and software to install updates automatically. This ensures you have the latest security protection for each app.
  • Use Multifactor Authentication whenever possible. This way, you’re still protected, even if your password is compromised.
  • Learn to identify phishing attempts.

While these steps can improve your data privacy, we also recommend double-checking privacy settings and data-sharing permissions for any apps you use. Turn off any permissions you don’t need. By limiting your data sharing, you’re plugging up holes bad actors may want to exploit down the line.
