On Friday, April 21, 2016, First Merchants Bank held its 8th Annual Recycle-O-Rama event from 11am – 2pm. The weather was perfect and the sun was out for the Earth Day celebration. FMB invited vendors from the community, including The Salvation Army, Community Computer Alliance (CCA), Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Big Green Box and Shred–It. We had 67 cars drive through the drop–off zone during the three-hour event.

CCA was able to collect 2,506 total pounds- over one ton of electronic recyclables including laptops, PC’s, TV’s, and printers. With the amount of materials collected, CCA will be able to teach over 62 hours of skills to men and women in its training programs. Shred-It collected more than 2 tons of paper, saving 38 trees! We were able to send The Big Green Box 35 pounds of Alkaline, NiCd, NiMH, Lead and Lithium Ion batteries to be recycled properly.

We also had the opportunity to partner with Parkway Grub, a food truck serving sandwiches and sides. Ten percent of the proceeds were donated to Cristo Rey Columbus High School.

We are committed to finding green solutions in a business environment, and we look forward to continuing these efforts next year at our next Recycle-O-Rama event!
