INDIANAPOLIS - As of Oct. 1, the federal government has shut down for an indeterminate period of time, and consumers may have concerns about access to their money and other banking services. The Indiana Bankers Association, of which First Merchants Bank and its divisions are members, would like to offer some assurances:
MUNCIE, Ind. - Be aware that criminals have been making phone calls to customers and non-customers claiming to be First Merchants Bank regarding their FMB Debit Card. The caller, which may be a computer automated call, identifies themselves as a representative of First Merchants Bank and is calling to tell the customer that there is an issue with their debit card and proceeds to ask for the debit card number and expiration date.

MUNCIE, Ind. - Chad Shelly, Banking Center Manager at First Merchants' Madison Street location, was recently awarded the Citizenship Award from the City of Muncie. The city betowed the award for Shelly's work with Interlock and the East Central Indiana autism community.

There are reports of fraudulent phone calls being placed by criminals purporting to be from the Social Security Office. The criminals have some information (i.e. name, account number) to make the calls sound legitimate but are requesting verification in regards to the customer’s financial institution in order to send the card out in the mail.
This would not be normal practice of the Social Security Office or a financial institution.
MUNCIE, Ind. - Throughout the month of July, all Delaware County Banking Centers and the Data Center were collection locations for the Hearts and Hands United 7th Annual Tools for School supply drive.
MUNCIE, Ind. - On Friday, July 12, First Merchants Bank, Muncie Region celebrated a Community Day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home in Muncie. Twelve volunteers worked on completing the insulation installation, hanging exterior siding, interior door hardware and general site clean up.
