Wabash Employees Walk In Relay for Life

June 21, 2012

WABASH, Ind. - Employees of the First Merchants Wabash banking centers joined the fight against cancer on June 8 and 9 in the Wabash Relay for Life. Team First Merchants was among about 12 teams walking continually through the night to raise awareness and financial support for cancer research.

The event began on June 8 at 3 p.m. at the historic Paradise Spring Treaty Ground. The event included a celebratory Survivor’s Lap, in which cancer survivors are invited to complete a lap together to celebrate victory over cancer. After dark, luminarias, each decorated with the name of a loved one, were lit in remembrance of those touched by cancer. On each luminaria was written the name of a loved one touched by or lost to cancer. Finally, at the Fight Back Ceremony, each participant was challenged to make a personal commitment to take up the fight against cancer. First Merchants is proud of its continual commitment to the community and to raising awareness and support for cancer prevention.
