First Merchants Serves: Red-tail Land Conservancy

May 16, 2013

First Merchants Serves logoMUNCIE, Ind. - On Friday, April 26, 15 First Merchants employees got 'outside' their comfort zone and participated in the first Delaware County 2013 First Merchants Community Day event at the Red-tail Nature Preserve. They spent the day pulling and cutting away the invasive bush honeysuckle plant, which can rapidly overtake an area's native plant species, forming a dense shrub layer that crowds and shades out other plants. See photos from the day in the video below.

The Red-tail Nature Preserve is one of many sites protected by the Red-tail Land Conservancy. The organization preserves, protects, and restores natural areas and farmland in East Central Indiana, while increasing awareness of our natural heritage. The not-for-profit land trust has grown steadily since its inception in 1999, and nearly 2,000 acres of natural areas and farm land are permanently protected because of the organization's efforts.
