Pittenger Student Center at Ball State University. At the Polar Plunge, participants jumped into a pool of wintry water in exchange for pledges and donations benefiting Special Olympics Indiana. In order to participate, each individual had to raise at least $75 in pledges. The event also featured a competition for the best costume. Thanks to the many volunteers and courageous jumpers, Delaware County raised $10,000 for Special Olympics Indiana.

First Merchants employee Michael Morelli was given the opportunity to “take the plunge” for his second year. In an effort to encourage donations, Michael created a donation scale to determine what costume he would wear when he took the plunge. Michael jumped into the frigid waters dressed as a superhero.

Special Olympics Indiana is a not-for-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in more than 20 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, reaching nearly 11,000 athletes across Indiana. For more information visit
