HIGHLAND, Ind. - May 4th's Lake County March for Babies event, held at Highland High School, raised a record-breaking amount of money for the March of Dimes. The event is meant to raise awareness and funds for infant health as the March of Dimes works toward reducing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

First Merchants Bank had more than 60 participants walking in the event, while other volunteers manned the registration table. The 5 mile walk raised a total of more than $165,000 for the organization, of which the First Merchants team was responsible for $12,743. This made the bank the top fundraising team for the event. In addition, First Merchants Relationship Manager John Freyek was the Chair for the event.

The walk featured the Erie Lackawanna trail and downtown Highland. Other event highlights included food, entertainment, and a Kids Zone.

Thanks to all who contributed to the success of this event!
