Annual Holiday Tradition Benefits 150 Children

January 13, 2014

MUNCIE, Ind. - The generosity of First Merchants employees helped make the recent holiday season brighter for dozens of local children. Part of an annual tradition, a total of 150 children in nine classrooms at the Head Start of Delaware County received gifts from employees of First Merchants Corporation, First Merchants Bank, First Merchants Trust Company and First Merchants Insurance Group this year.

Each employee who volunteered to play Santa received the name and wish list for a child in the Head Start program, and bought and wrapped gifts for their child. The lists contained both needs and wants for the youngsters. The gifts were then delivered to classrooms in time for the holidays.

The federally funded Head Start program is designed to prepare preschool children from low-income families and special-needs children for kindergarten, giving them a 'Head Start' on learning. For more information about Head Start of Delaware County, visit

First Merchants thanks Head Start for the opportunity to give back to our community and share in the holiday spirit once again this year.
