First Merchants Bank employees volunteered at a recent Habitat for Humanity buildMUNCIE, Ind. - On Friday, July 12, First Merchants Bank, Muncie Region celebrated a Community Day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home in Muncie. Twelve volunteers worked on completing the insulation installation, hanging exterior siding, interior door hardware and general site clean up.

Habitat is not and will never be about charity. It is about change. Partner families are not given a fish, nor are they even taught to fish. Habitat teaches people how to own the pond! According to the 2010 Census, Delaware County ranks in the bottom three for both median household income and percentage of poverty in the state of Indiana. Clearly there is much work to be done and Muncie Habitat empowers local volunteers to solve the local problem of poverty housing through both new construction and the rehabilitation of vacant homes.
