Second Harvest Hosts FMB Day of Giving

October 4, 2012

MUNCIE, Ind. – On September 27, First Merchants employees partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana for a day of giving and service. The 50 First Merchants volunteers helped distribute food at Second Harvest’s Tailgate, bagged and sorted food, and cleaned the cooler, freezer and other areas in the warehouse.

The First Merchants volunteers handed out 39,236 pounds of food to 1,050 households during the tailgate and bagged 18,116 pounds of food (equating to 13,621 meals) in the Second Harvest warehouse. The volunteers donated a total of 400 hours of their time during the day of service.

The Second Harvest Day of Service was a part of the First Merchants Serves program, which encourages employee volunteerism. First Merchants is proud to support and volunteer with philanthropic organizations in our efforts to make our communities better places to live, work and bank.
