At First Merchants, our priority is protecting our clients and their financial information. In light of this we wanted to alert you to a potential security issue with Heartland Payment Systems that could include First Merchant debit and credit card numbers. Heartland Payment Systems has announced that they found evidence of an intrusion to their processing platform. Heartland processes debit and credit card transactions for more than 250,000 businesses nationwide.
Be assured that First Merchant’s Network and computers were not compromised. The access did not involve First Merchant’s computer systems, nor was your personal or account information on file at First Merchants compromised.
Heartland Payment Systems provides transaction data service for a number of restaurants and retailers across the country. The criminals gained access to data on Heartland's systems - not at First Merchants. While this is not an intrusion on our systems, you may still be affected and need to monitor your accounts.
We will continue to monitor this situation and will work closely with our sources to identify fraudulent behavior.
However, we encourage our clients to protect themselves from identity theft by closely monitoring their accounts for unauthorized transactions and safeguarding their personal information. First Merchant customers with online banking can monitor their accounts online at anytime.
If you notice anything suspicious with your accounts, please notify us as soon as possible through your local branch or at 800-205-3464.
